Pillow Top Divan Beds Buying Guide
A pillow top divan bed comes with a mattress that has an extra layer of soft filling stitched to the top. You get a plush, cushioned surface with the support of springs underneath.
What is in the mattress
Nearly every set has pocket springs, from 1000 to 4500, under a pillow top of wool, cotton, memory foam or gel. Because of the extra layer, these mattresses are deep, so check your fitted sheets and that your headboard still shows above the mattress. Compare with all pillow top mattresses.
Comfort
Most sets are medium firm, with medium options too. The pillow top softens the surface, so a medium firm pillow top feels gentler than a medium firm mattress without one.
Who it suits
- Side sleepers who want a soft surface for their shoulders and hips.
- Anyone who finds their bed too firm but wants to keep the support of springs.
- Couples: with pocket springs underneath, you feel less movement.
If you sleep on your front, a firmer mattress without a pillow top usually suits you better.
Build your bed
Choose your fabric, storage and headboard when you order. Many sets also come as a 6'0 super king zip and link bed. Read the divan beds buying guide for storage and size advice.
Pillow Top Divan Beds FAQs
What is a pillow top divan bed?
It is a divan base with a mattress that has an extra layer of soft filling stitched to the top, such as wool, cotton or memory foam, over pocket springs.
Will my headboard still show above a pillow top mattress?
Pillow top mattresses are deep, so more of a low headboard is hidden behind the mattress. A taller or floor standing headboard keeps more of it on show. Read standard or floor standing headboard?
Can I flip a pillow top mattress?
No. A pillow top mattress has a top and a bottom, so turn it round from head to foot regularly instead, especially in the first few months.
