Bed Bases
Already have a mattress you love? A divan base gives it a solid, supportive platform. Most of our bases are hand-crafted, with optional 2, 4 or continental drawers or ottoman lift-up storage, in every size from small single to super king. Add a headboard to finish the look.

Bed Bases Buying Guide
A divan base is the foundation of your bed: an upholstered box with a solid top for your mattress, often with storage built in. Choose a base on its own if you already have a mattress, or want to choose the mattress separately.
Types of base
- Universal divan base: in linen, plush velvet, faux leather and more, with your choice of storage.
- Reinforced divan base: extra support built in, for a sturdy, long-lasting foundation.
- Split divan base: double, king and super king sizes come in four sections, easy to carry through narrow hallways and up stairs.
- Shallow divan base: a lower base for a lower bed.
- Pocket sprung top base: pocket springs and generous padding in the top of the base, for extra support and comfort.
- Ottoman divan base: the whole base lifts up for storage, with end or side opening.
- Floating ottoman bed frames and ottoman storage beds including a headboard: see also ottoman beds.
Storage
On our universal bases choose no storage, 2 or 4 drawers, 2 drawers and 2 mini drawers, or ottoman lift-up storage. Leave around 60cm beside the bed so drawers can open fully.
Delivery in pieces
Single size bases arrive in one piece. Larger sizes arrive in two pieces that connect with a concealed easy link system, and our split base comes in four.
Finish the look
Add a matching headboard, choose castor wheels or chrome feet, and pick a mattress. Want the mattress included? See divan beds.
Bed Bases FAQs
What is a divan base?
A divan base is an upholstered box with a solid top that supports your mattress. It often has drawers or ottoman storage built in, and you can add a headboard.
Do you sell a reinforced divan base?
Yes. Our reinforced universal divan base has extra support built in, for a sturdy, long-lasting foundation for your mattress.
Will a divan base fit up narrow stairs?
Larger bases arrive in two pieces that link together. For very tight spaces, our split divan base comes in four sections in double, king and super king sizes.
Do you have a sprung divan base?
Yes. Our luxury pocket sprung top divan base has pocket springs and generous padding in its top, for extra support and comfort. Our other bases have a solid platform top for firm, even support.
Does a divan base come with a mattress?
No. A divan base is sold on its own. For a base and mattress together, see our divan beds.
