What makes the perfect mattress?

Having the perfect mattress seems like quite an easy task, going to the store or going online and finding a mattress that suits your needs.

But there are actually quite a few factors that go into making the perfect mattress. Whether it’s the material that’s used, the firmness or just the size.

Quite a lot of these points must be taken into consideration before you make the choice, Bedworld discusses what makes the perfect mattress and what to look out for when you’re deciding.

Size & Tension

One of the many parts of a great mattress is the tension, from soft, medium, firm and extra firm. A variety of different styled mattresses will always come with a specific sort of tension to it and finding the right one is what reveals the perfect one for you.

With the many sizes of mattresses available, it can often get confusing and frustrating when picking a mattress and considering all your needs. Too big and it could potentially not fit in your bedroom or too small and you could end up with your feet hanging out of the bed.

Sizes normally have an effect on the tension of the mattress as well. The smaller the mattress normally means it’s a lot firmer, with the larger king-size mattresses often feeling much softer.

Fillings

What the mattress is filled with has a large effect on the overall feel and would drastically change between material and your own personal preference.

The higher quality fillings raise the price quite a bit, but often, it’s worth it to spend a little more on something that you’ll be using every night for 8+ years. Going for bargain prices on mattresses only hurts you later on, as it leads to poor quality sleep and constant maintenance.

Gaining more popularity, away from the traditional spring mattresses, are latex and memory foam mattresses. Both provide excellent comfort and cushioning whilst not skimping on the support.

Personal Touches

With any mattress, it usually takes a while before you’re ready to jump in and be in a fully relaxed sleep in seconds. It takes some time for you to adapt to it, to make it your own.

There’s nothing like your own bed and there are a few steps you can take to start the process of making it yours.

Add a Mattress Protector

Mattress Protectors are an excellent way of practising good sleep hygiene while also keeping the mattress in top condition for years to come.

When sleeping, you naturally accumulate sweat, dead skin, dust and sometimes spilt liquids, and a protector stops all of this from reaching the mattress, keeping it in pristine condition for some time.

Wash The Mattress

This is a step often overlooked by many of us, but washing the mattress a few times a year to ensure that it’s fully disinfected.

Sometimes, we’re restricted by the confounds of our house, washing a mattress can be a large task but going out of your way a few times a year can be the difference between having a long-standing good mattress and having to replace it a few years later.
