Soiled Mattresses at Basildon Hospital

Submitted by Bedworld on November 27, 2009 – 4:50 pmOne Comment

It has been reported that at least 70 patients have died at Basildon Hospital due to treacherous conditions and has led to disgusted patient groups demanding bosses resign over this debacle.

The Telegraph today reported Trust Chairman, Michael Large said. “I want to reassure our local community that the safety and well-being of our patients is our highest priority. The monitor has found us to be in breach of our terms of authorisation as a Foundation Trust is an extremely serious matter and we do not seek to underestimate its gravity”. Although many are asking is this a little to late?

The report claimed “a commode was soiled under the seat” which compliments the several blood pressure cuffs being stained but what’s worse is “the sprung mattresses were found to be badly soiled and to have a foul odour.”

The hospital are now trying to rectify this monstrosity and prompting staff to maintain the highest standards of hygiene. There has been an emergency order for 30 new trolley foam mattresses, clinical equipment and new disposable pressure cuffs. “We held an Infection Prevention Symposium during October and have relaunched the MAX Guide to Hand Hygiene.”

Chairman Large said: “It is an extremely serious matter and we do not seek to underestimate its gravity.”
